When working with body image and eating disorders it’s worth noting that a client is often not dealing with ‘just’ an eating disorder or low self-esteem. There is extensive research on the co-occurrence of anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma that can manifest in eating disorder behaviours. This is not always the case, but it is important for the treating professional to be aware of how other disorders may interact and what alternative coping skills may need to be considered. If you have any concerns or believe an alternative method is required, make sure to consult other experienced practitioners.
